Who We Are
Our Club is made up of people who are fascinated with those beautiful and prickly plants known as cactus and succulents. Some members have been growing cactus for years and have large collections; others are newcomers just starting out with only a few plants. It's a relaxed and congenial atmosphere in which to share our enthusiasm, knowledge, interest and experiences. All are welcome!
What We Do
Programs at monthly meetings: These include talks on a variety of topics by experienced growers (who frequently bring plants for sale as a bonus), demonstrations, group discussions, slide shows, and question-and-answer sessions. The objective—to learn and have fun.
Show and Tell: Members bring plants from their collection to display and/or discuss or ones that they want to learn more about.
A Mini-Show: Members display specimens of a pre-selected cactus and succulent variety for that month and we vote for the one we feel best exemplifies that particular genus. At the end of the year, those with the most points receive prizes for their efforts.
Library: The Club has a large collection of cactus and succulent "how-to" books that members are encouraged to check out.
Newsletter: A monthly newsletter to keep all apprised of club activities, projects and programs.
Advice: Everyone enjoys sharing information on what works for them.
Pot Luck Luncheons: A long-standing CC&SS tradition is the group pot luck after our monthly meetings. It's a great way to get better acquainted.
Our Annual Show & Sale in May: A chance for Club members to display their best plants. We also have plants for sale by professional growers and by Club members, plus pottery, books and even raffle prizes and refreshments! The 2013 Show and Sale will be May 18, 9:00-4:00, and May 19, 10:00-3:00.
